Moe Watson is the engine at the heart of Greasepaint. Everybody knows Moe and Moe knows everybody – not just the artistic staff, but every child who’s acted there. Well since she joined in 2002 or 2003 that is. When exactly? Well she’s not quite sure. And that’s what we admire most about Moe – she’s so invested in theater and child development that some of the little details aren’t that important!
As someone who has spent her entire career in the performing arts, and more than two decades in Arizona, Moe has dedicated herself to providing compelling theatre experiences, not only in her own acting and directing, but also by encouraging community artistic staff and youth acting talent to stretch the boundaries of imagination and awareness and to achieve a positive sense of self.
As a unabashed fan of Greasepaint, its productions and values, I sat down with Moe to learn more about her passion for the stage, her journey here, her love for community theater and what exactly it is that makes the shows here so darn amazing! We spent thirty minutes on the stage at Greasepaint with a couple of mics, virtually no idea of where the story was headed but fully confident that it would be a performance worthy of the storied location! Needless to say, Moe doesn’t disappoint. So relax into your favorite chair and listen as Moe takes you through the history of Greasepaint, her involvement in it, her favorite shows, her commitment to community and youth development and her love for the incredible amount of acting talent that calls this theatre, and the valley of the sun, their home.
