One of the most meaningful things we do as a theatre community isn’t only about producing musical theatre shows – it’s about showing up for one another.

There’s something powerful about watching new and emerging performers step onto the stage for the first time. The nerves. The excitement. The quiet courage it takes to stand in the lights and say, I belong here. For our Greasepaint family, that moment is almost here again.

From February 20 – March 1, our newest cast will take the stage in Madagascar Jr. – and this production is as much about community as it is about music and storytelling.

For many of these young performers, this show marks an important beginning. A first production. A first role. A first experience of working as part of an ensemble. These early moments matter. They are where confidence starts to grow, friendships form, and a sense of belonging takes root.

When we come to support a newer cast, we’re doing something bigger than attending a performance. We’re welcoming young actors into a community that values encouragement, celebration, and shared pride. We’re reminding them that they are part of something larger – that Greasepaint is a place where every cast, every role, and every step forward is worth cheering for.

Madagascar Jr. brings plenty of joy on its own – familiar songs, big characters, and lots of laughter – but what makes this production truly special is the opportunity to surround our newest performers with applause, encouragement, and the unmistakable feeling of being supported.

That final bow matters. The faces in the audience matter. The energy in the room matters.
