Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is Stephen Sondheim’s dark, musical thriller. Set in 19th Century England, it tells the story of Benjamin Barker (aka Sweeney Todd) who returns to London after spending 15 years in a penal colony on trumped up charges.
When he discovers that his wife poisoned herself after her rape by the judge who sentenced Sweeney, he vows revenge on the judge and the whole world.
He teams up with piemaker, Mrs. Lovett, and opens a barbershop where he slits the throats of customers and has them baked into pies.
